Read the signs
As part of an initiative to make more public information freely and easily available, the Isle of Man government wanted to share details of potential delays and road closures with local road users.
Control F1 designed and a built a mobile application – “Read the Signs” – which connects to the island’s electronic road signage and matrix boards, and displays these signs via users’ smartphones.
The resulting app – which self-updates every five minutes – helps road users to plan ahead for their journeys, as well as allowing them access to up-to-date information while they are on the go.
Users have reacted well to the app, with one commenting: “Useful to check if a mountain road is open before [your] journey”. Jason Poyzer, project manager for the Isle of Man, said: “The project has been a great success and we have been very happy with the service provided by Control F1; they listened to our requirements and concerns to produce a clear specification."
